Method Selection

Pick the process by artwork type, colour needs and expected service life. Most PUMAY orders fall into one of these three routes.

Laser Engraving

Monochrome · Permanent

How it works

A focused laser removes the anodized layer or cuts 0.02–0.15 mm into the metal, leaving a mark that cannot peel, fade or rub off.

Best for

Serial numbers, minimal logos and technical legends that must survive 5+ years outdoors.

Avoid when

You need full-colour artwork or an exact Pantone match — the mark shows the tone of the substrate itself.

Typical use

Black anodized panels with silver-white engraved logos.

Silk-Screen Printing

Multi-colour · Flat panels

How it works

Ink is pushed through a mesh stencil — one screen per colour — then heat-cured onto the panel.

Best for

Front panels with icons, units and multi-colour legends; unit cost drops sharply with volume.

Avoid when

Very small batches with many colours (one screen fee per colour), or artwork with gradients.

Typical use

Amplifier and instrument front panels with printed control legends.

UV Printing

Full colour · No tooling

How it works

UV-curable ink is jetted directly onto the surface and cured instantly by UV light — a digital process with no screen or mask.

Best for

Full-colour logos, gradients, graphics and variable data; ideal for single samples and short runs.

Avoid when

Heavy abrasion or solvent contact is expected without a protective clear coat.

Typical use

Brand graphics on sample and small-batch enclosures.

File Specification

What to send, and what slows a project down. Vector files quote fastest; the items on the right are the most common causes of rework.

Send Us This

  • Vector artwork: AI / EPS / PDF / SVG / DXF (raster accepted for UV printing at 300 dpi, 1:1)
  • Text converted to curves / outlines — no live fonts
  • 1:1 scale with dimensions, or the scale ratio stated on the drawing
  • Pantone / spot colour reference per ink when using silk-screen
  • Panel outline drawing showing marking position and orientation
  • Stroke width stated for engraving outlines: ≥ 0.15 mm

Avoid This

  • Gradients and halftone photos for silk-screen — route them to UV printing instead
  • Hairlines under 0.15 mm, or text under 1.2 mm cap height
  • Low-resolution JPEG / PNG logos pulled from a website
  • Word, Excel or screenshot artwork without a vector source
  • Marks that cross machined chamfers, cutouts or colour transitions
  • Marks closer than 15 mm to panel edges or screw holes
04

Placement & Size

A quick reference for front-panel layout. Dimensions are starting points — final positions are confirmed on the sample drawing.

Illustrative front-panel marking layout An illustrative panel showing a logo area, machined cutout, mounting holes and dimension references. Not to scale. YOUR LOGO Machined cutout A · 60–120 mm B · ≥ 15 mm C · 15–40 mm Illustrative layout · Not to scale
Marking area — logo / legend Machined cutout Anodized / brushed panel Screw / mounting hole

Placement Guidelines

  • Marks ≥ 15 mm from edges & screw holes
  • Flat face ≥ 20 × 10 mm for engraving
  • Legend text ≥ 1.5 mm high for silk-screen
  • Avoid marks across chamfers

Confirm on the Sample Drawing

Confirm the marking position, orientation and dimensions against the panel outline before production.

Position Recommended mark Method
Front panel — centre 60–120 mm wide logo, ≥ 15 mm clear to edges Engrave / Silk / UV
Top face Logo up to 70% of top width; best shelf visibility Engrave / UV
Rear panel Model, serial and dense legends; text ≥ 1.5 mm Silk-screen
Bottom face Serial / QR marking; text ≥ 1.2 mm Engrave / UV
Side wall Small marks only — curved faces distort ink UV

Marking FAQ

The six questions that decide a marking spec, answered without sales language.

Can you match our Pantone colour?

Silk-screen: yes — matched to your Pantone or spot reference and verified on a physical sample. UV printing: matched as a CMYK / RAL approximation, confirmed on the sample. Laser engraving has no ink colour — the mark shows the substrate tone, for example silver-white on black anodize.

Will the mark survive outdoors?

Engraving is permanent and rated 5+ years outdoors. Silk-screen and UV printing hold 3–5 years; for coastal, desert or high-UV installations we recommend adding a protective clear coat, which we can specify at quoting.

Can you mark curved or stepped surfaces?

Flat faces are strongly recommended and give the best accuracy. Shallow curves can be marked by UV printing with reduced precision. Deep steps, chamfers and colour-transition lines are normally excluded from the marking area — we will show you why on the sample drawing.

Is there a setup fee?

Laser engraving and UV printing: none. Silk-screen printing carries one screen fee per colour; above the agreed quantity that fee is normally waived. Your quote itemises every charge, EXW, with no hidden lines.

How small can text be?

Engraving: 1.2 mm cap height with strokes of 0.15 mm or more. Silk-screen and UV: 1.5 mm text with 0.2 mm strokes. Below these limits ink bleed and laser heat begin to affect legibility — we will flag it during the artwork check.

Can I combine methods on one enclosure?

Yes — the usual split is silk-screen legends on the front panel plus an engraved serial or QR code on the bottom face. Mixed methods are quoted as a single project with one lead time.
